Sunrise Jungle Tour: Tiger Cave Temple, Hot Springs and Emerald Pool
By John Zx, Independent travel researcher · Prices checked 2026-07-09, confirmed live at checkout
Climb the Tiger Cave Temple stairs in the cool pre-dawn air, watch sunrise over the karst cliffs from the summit, then swim the Hot Springs and Emerald Pool before the crowds. Breakfast box, smoothie and a premium Thai set lunch are included.

Why climb at sunrise?
The staircase up Wat Tham Suea is brutal in midday heat, and the summit gets busy from mid morning. At dawn the air sits in the low twenties, the steps are nearly empty, and the first light hits the golden Buddha and the limestone cliffs of Krabi while you have the platform to breathe. Watching the valley wake up from 278 meters is the single best view this province offers before breakfast.
What does the day include?
A very early hotel pickup gets you to the temple before first light. After the climb and descent, a breakfast box and a fresh fruit smoothie wait at the base. The tour then runs the Khlong Thom circuit while it is still quiet: the Hot Springs Waterfall first, described fairly as a jungle jacuzzi, then the Emerald Pool with a walk through shaded forest trail. A premium Thai set lunch closes the day before the drive back.
Who should book it?
Photographers, early risers, anyone visiting between February and May when daytime heat is at its worst, and repeat visitors who already did the standard loop. Skip it if a 4:30am alarm ruins your holiday, or if you are staying in Railay, since boat transfers are not covered.
Prices and what is included
Hotel transfers, an English speaking guide, the breakfast box, the smoothie, the Thai set lunch, water and accident insurance are included. National park entrance fees for all three stops are not, so carry roughly 650 baht per adult in cash. Prices vary by season and are confirmed live at checkout.
Insider tips
Bring a light layer for the summit; dawn wind feels cool after the sweat of the climb. A phone torch works but a headlamp is nicer on the darker lower steps. Keep your swimwear accessible so you are first into the Emerald Pool while the surface is still glass.
What time does it start, honestly?
Expect a pickup between 4 and 5 in the morning depending on your hotel zone, because the goal is to be on the stairs while it is still dark and on the summit before the sun clears the ridge. Sunrise in Krabi swings between about 6:10 and 6:40 across the year. The climb takes most people 40 to 60 minutes, so the math is unforgiving. It sounds brutal and then the first light hits the karsts and nobody regrets the alarm. You are usually back at your hotel by early afternoon, which leaves time for a beach nap.
Season and weather notes
Dry season dawns, December through March, give the highest chance of a clean horizon. April and May trade haze for heat, which matters less at this hour; the pre-dawn cool is exactly why this format works in the hot months. In the rainy season the tour still runs, and a broken sky can produce the most dramatic light of all, but accept the gamble. The pools afterward are quietest in any season, since you arrive when most tours are still at breakfast.
How it compares
The classic bundle and the Ao Nang budget loop run the same stops at normal hours for less money. The sunset temple tours chase the opposite light and skip the pools entirely. Nothing else on this page gets you the summit in the cold morning air.
